Youth to Youth Board

United Way of Leeds and Grenville is pleased to announce an exciting new opportunity geared to secondary school students. Two students from each of the nine secondary schools from Leeds and Grenville have been invited to join a Youth to Youth Board – a junior board of directors for the United Way of Leeds & Grenville. Applications are now available at your high school's student services centre or can be downloaded here (in Word [47k] or PDF [19KB]).

This is a wonderful opportunity for youth to get involved in their community. Chosen applicants will learn what it means to be on a non-for-profit board of directors. They will follow policies, construct and sit on committees and plan, organize and facilitate events. The Youth to Youth board will accept proposals from youth initiatives within Leeds and Grenville and through an allocations process, will allocate any funds they have accumulated through their fundraising efforts.

In addition, members of the junior board will be paired with members of the adult board of directors as part of a board to board mentoring program. Each of the 20 chosen applicants will be trained in “Board Basics”, a United Way branded Volunteer Leadership Development program, valued at $3000.

Applications are being accepted now and interviews will take place during the first two weeks of June. One junior and senior representative will be chosen from each school, namely a student from grade 9 or 10 and 11 or 12, respectively. If you are looking for a great opportunity to learn leadership skills while getting involved in your community, this is an opportunity for you. It’s also a great way to get your community service hours.
