Why
does United Way ask for more money each year?
Inflation,
growing needs, government cutbacks and a changing community are a few reasons
that more money must be raised each year. As
in your own home and business, costs keep rising.
The increase allows for maintaining and expanding current services, as
well as providing for new and emerging needs each year.
What
type of Agencies does United Way fund?
We fund 24
health and social service agencies that provide services, which are available
to
all community members in Leeds & Grenville.
The arts and political organizations are not funded.
Does
United Way fund Planned Parenthood?
Planned
parenthood is not a funded program of our member agencies.
If
United Way raises funds for so many agencies, why do I still receive so many
requests for money?
The United
Way does not prohibit non-United Way groups from soliciting contributions.
Some United Way Agencies conduct campaigns for items such as capital
acquisitions, which are not funded by the United Way.
Am
I being pressured to give?
No.
People give because they understand the critical needs of people in the
community and because they feel United Way is one of the best ways to help
people.
My
spouse gives. Should I?
We hope
that every person with a steady income will consider giving to those who are
less fortunate. Every donation
helps. Help make a difference in your community.
All donations are tax deductible.
Do
United Way Staff and President have high salaries?
No, our
volunteer board of directors regulates decisions regarding United Way salaries.
Our office is modestly staffed. We
seek funding opportunities such as HRSDC and Summer Student grants to keep our
staffing costs low. Our President is a volunteer.
Our Campaign and Administration costs are very low (17.5%) -
among the lowest in North America!
I
cannot afford to give to the United Way!
Inflation
is tough on everybody. But if it
is
hard on you, think of how it must be for somebody who needs help. Call
us about assisting our agencies or United Way by volunteering your time.
Can
I designate my pledge to a specific agency?
Yes,
simply indicate on your pledge card the agency to which you wish to designate
your donation.
