FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – UWLG to Continue Key Volunteer Centre Programs and Services Leeds & Grenville
ON – May 19, 2026 After more than 40 years of extraordinary service to Leeds & Grenville, the Volunteer Centre of St. Lawrence-Rideau will be closing its doors — leaving behind a legacy of compassion, connection, and community leadership that has touched countless lives across our region.
For decades, the Volunteer Centre has been a driving force for volunteerism and community care, connecting people to purpose and strengthening the social fabric of Leeds & Grenville through volunteer engagement, poverty reduction initiatives, financial literacy programming, income tax clinics, leadership development, and community support services.
As the Volunteer Centre prepares for this transition, United Way Leeds & Grenville is proud to step forward and continue several key community programs, including LEAP, the Urgent Needs Fund (UNF), income tax programming, volunteerism and other initiatives that support individuals and families across our region.
“These are difficult decisions for any organization, but from the beginning, our priority has been the community and ensuring these important supports continue,” said Victoria Redekopp, Volunteer Centre Board Chair. “United Way Leeds & Grenville has been a trusted partner for many years, and we are incredibly grateful for their willingness to step forward and carry this work into the future. While this chapter is emotional for many of us, there is also great comfort in knowing these programs will continue to serve the people of Leeds & Grenville with care, compassion, and strong community leadership.”
United Way Leeds & Grenville extends sincere gratitude to both Boards of Directors for leading with openness and courage throughout this process, and to the staff, volunteers, and leaders who have carried this transition with kindness, professionalism, and deep care for the community.
